Types of UPVC Door Handles
It is essential to select the appropriate replacement upvc handle for your home if handles are in need of replacement. Locksmiths can supply and install high-security uPVC door handles with extra security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Please check these measurements to make sure that your new uPVC handles will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a solid bar that pivots around a central point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply a force at the end of the lever, it is likely to cause it to turn the fulcrum to the direction of the force applied. This motion increases the force applied, allowing you to lift or move something that would require a greater amount of force if you tried to apply directly to the load.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point where you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The advantage of mechanical force increases when the lever is extended. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from fulcrum point to the point you apply force by the distance between fulcrum point and the end of lever.
Levers can also have a variety of effects based on how the forces are applied. For instance a lever of class 2 has a tendency to turn in the opposite direction to when the force applied to it (like a totter-totter). If you press on the handle of a door, the forces will produce similar rotational effects to this.
However, levers don't create energy. Levers increase the force by changing small amounts of effort applied over a lengthy distance into greater amounts of force applied over shorter distances. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport large amounts of cargo. This is also the principle behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools like crowbars, fishing rods, claws for hammers and even your legs when you sit on the hand brakes of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles are a form of door handle made of upvc that has levers on both sides to operate the multipoint lock. These come in many variations & finishes and are suitable for a variety of materials including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the inner and exterior door with screws and spindles included. They are available in hand- and non-handled versions to accommodate different types of users.
These locks can be used to replace existing doors made of upvc. The levers are raised to open all multipoint locks, and the key is turned to lock or close the door. They provide a bit more security than traditional lever door handles since locking is only done from the inside using the key.
They're not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are an affordable alternative to add security. The only drawback is that they don't offer the same level of protection as a cylinder bolt, and therefore don't stop external access in the event that the door has been left open.
The majority of lever pad upvc door handles that we offer are manufactured by industry's leading manufacturers and therefore are constructed using high quality components. In general, they come with a manufacturer's guarantee.
They are typically designed to work with the 92mm lock or a replacement version called the Paddock Lock. They will have an 82mm cylinder center on the inside, and 62mm on the outside. They are also fitted with two spindle followers. Some come with a backplate, and others are movable to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches, which are the simplest of door handles are commonly used. By pressing down on the lever, it triggers a simple latch mechanism inside the door to keep it closed, which can be locked with the use of a key. Some lever privacy handles work similar to the doorknob, but with a second snib, similar to a doorknob.
A snib is a very useful tool, especially in homes where privacy and security are important. You can use the snib feature to prevent your partner from entering until they are prepared. This type handle is also used for interior doors, such as bedrooms, where you might need to restrict access from outside.
In some cases, snib buttons can cause problems, particularly when you have doors and locks that are distorted. If the snib switch is accidentally pressed or by a person who isn't familiar with it, the door could be slammed and you locked out. It is possible to gain entry by knocking on the door frame or letterbox. But this isn't a good idea.
If door handle repair is equipped with a snib-button, we recommend replacing the handle with a contemporary E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. These smart locks can be retrofitted to double-turn pull handle kits. They come with coverplates that hide the holes in the existing ones to ensure an easy installation. The E-LOK utilizes a smart app to enable you to unlock the door using mechanical keys or RFID cards and can be configured with passcodes for safe entry and convenience. The system is tested to 200k cycles to ensure durability. The handles are constructed of solid metal and comply with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.

Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a popular handle style for front doors. It has the benefit of preventing the door from being opened from outside without keys if the lock is not deadlocked. This is accomplished through an external 'pad' handle that locks in the gap between the handles and the lock case to prevent the latch from being removed or the door opened.
This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks which use split spindle mechanisms. This kind of operation requires the internal lever handle as well as the external pad handle to be installed within the same lock case. It is a simple modification to the existing uPVC handles, but it could also involve changing the lock case or even a new set of handle furniture to allow for this added functionality.
These aluminium lever/movable pad handles are suitable for uPVC doors and come with an easy to maintain slide bearing fixing lugs, spring cassettes and fixing lugs included. These handles have an euro-profile cut out and can be mounted on a variety of uPVC or doors made of timber.
The lever-movable pad is available in various designs to fit a broad selection of multipoint locks. They are designed to work with split spindle multipoint locks with a 92mm cylinder and require a separate split spindle set as supplied by the lock maker.
These Hoppe London 77G/3831N/113 lever moveable pad handles are manufactured from cast aluminum with an anodised finish that is corrosion resistant and has high scratch resistance. They can be used in conjunction with various other Hoppe products like patio door handles, french door handles, and window handles. They come with an escutcheon for security.
Lever/Moveable Snib
The lever/lever handle is among the most popular kinds of door handles made of upvc and is available in a variety of designs. It is comprised of two moveable inline handles and is lockable with either a key or thumbturn cylinder that is inside. Pad handles are an alternative to a lever or lever handle and consists of either a movable or fixed pad that can be used to operate the lock. These Fullex handles are sprung lever pads with snibs that can be triggered to stop the latch from closing.
Choosing the right replacement upvc door handles requires careful analysis of the PZ measurement, screw centres and the back plate length to ensure the new handle will fit and function properly with the existing locking system on your doors.
